On Sunday, Cate and I loaded up the bouncy castle and the tag along for a trip to the Rimutaka Rail Trail. We picked up Mike and Felix (1) on the way out to Upper Hutt.
The trail is wide, smooth, gravel road, that on the Hutt side at least, has a nice easy gradient. The hardest part of the ride was trying to lift my bike and the tag a long in one heave over the two gates near the start of the ride.
Mike and I both took lights, and the kids seemed completely unfazed by the tunnels.
I guess it took us a bit over an hour to meander up to the summit, where we stopped for a snack. Handy tip - at the summit there are flush loos, which Cate informs me smell much nicer than the long drops at the bottom of the track.
After a quick snack, we headed through the Summit Tunnel (~600m), before turning around at the other end and heading back.
Cate insisted that we hit this ford at least half a dozen times on the way back.
Fun day out, next time we will try and convince the wives to come and take a picnic.
